After a two year search that brought nine guest conductors to Long Beach, Maestro Eckart Preu takes the baton in his first official performance as new music director of the Long Beach Symphony Orchestra.

“I think it’s going to be something very special, because you kind of set the tone, the official tone, for the future,” said the German-born conductor a few days before the Oct. 7 seasonpremiere concert.

Preu, who becomes the eight conductor to helm the Symphony in its 83-year history, will lead the orchestra in a program of Viennese masterworks.
