Plácido Domingo finally is ready to take on Wagner's toughest tenor part. EMI
says he plans to record a complete version of Wagner's "Tristan und Isolde"
later this year.
Casting is likely to include Nina Stemme as Isolde, Rene Pape as King Marke,
Mihoko Fujimura as Brangaene and Olaf Baer as Kurwenal, said EMI spokeswoman
Mariko Tada. Antonio Pappano will conduct the orchestra of the Royal Opera,
Covent Garden, and the recording sessions are planned between November and
January 2005.
Domingo, 63, has recorded excerpts of the opera previously. He has never sung
the complete role on stage.
